Dinner and Gala On November 10th at the Historic Dock Street Theatre

Celebrating the Work of Charleston Stage

The Presentation of the Laura Hewitt Distinguished Service Award Recognizing This Year's Recipient, Dave Marley

 

Join Charleston Stage in their exciting signature event for Charleston to help bring Guest Actors and Designers to the Dock Street Theatre stage. Charleston Stage’s Gala brings the brightest stars of Broadway to Charleston to celebrate Charleston Stage’s expanding Artistic Horizons. Last season, the premiere event was headlined by Broadway Veteran Asa Somers. This year’s event on Thursday, November 10, 2016, will feature Charleston Stage alumni Matt Leisy and Vanessa Moyen along with members of Charleston Stage’s 2016-17 Professional Resident Acting Company, Performance Troupe Members and TheatreWings High School Apprentices. They will perform hit Broadway songs such as "Opening Up" and "You Matter To Me" from Waitress, "You'll Be Back" and "It's Quiet Uptown" from Hamilton and songs from School of Rock and Kinky Boots.

Matt Leisy comes to you directly from the Broadway First National tour of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder where he has played the lead role of Monty Navarro at such theatres as The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles and The Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. Matt played over 1,000 performances as Matt in The Fantasticks Off Broadway and appeared at Lincoln Center and on PBS in Carousel with the New York Philharmonic. Matt has played many of the leading regional theatre houses including Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Repertory Theatre of St Louis, Arizona Theatre Company, Arden Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival and of course Charleston Stage in such productions as Ragtime, The 39 Steps, Pride and PrejudiceThe Importance of Being EarnestRed, Camelot and The History Boys. Matt left Charleston Stage to join the Asian Tour of the Sound of Music. He then moved to New York City which he now calls home. Matt is thrilled to be back with his Charleston Stage family! Vanessa Moyen is also an alumnus of Charleston Stage's 2011-12 Professional Resident Acting Company. Moyen has Guest starred in recent Charleston Stage productions of The Underpants as Louise Maske and Legally Blonde the Musical as Elle Woods, which she also performed at Oklahoma Shakespeare Festival. Moyen is currently living in New York City working as an actor and voice actor. In addition to her audiobook work on Audible, her voice can be heard throughout the Internet, TV and radio for companies such as MTV, Comcast, Nickelodeon, McDonalds and Pizza Hut, and Moyen recently recorded a pilot for a new cartoon for Comedy Central. She is currently writing and workshopping a brand new musical based on the hit reality TV show, Toddlers in Tiaras, titled "Tiaras: A Tiny, Sexy New Musical." www.vanessamoyen.com

Charleston Stage’s gala evening begins at 6:45pm with cocktails and passed light hors d’oeuvres in the lobby and courtyard. Mr. Leisy and Ms. Moyen along with Charleston Stage's Professional Resident Acting Company, Performance Troupe Members and TheatreWings High School Apprentices will perform on stage starting at 7:30pm. Following the performance, Chairs, Benefactors and Patrons and their guests will enjoy an exclusive elegant seated dinner.

Proceeds from the Gala support Charleston Stage’s New Horizons Initiatives, which include securing Guest Actors, engaging Guest Scenic and Costume Designers from around the country and expanding the Professional Resident Acting Company allowing Charleston Stage education programs for more than 15,000 young people to be enhanced and grown.
