FAQs for Patrons

WHY ARE YOU CANCELING?

We believed that the COVID-19 crisis would be abated in enough time for us to reopen in August, then in January. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. There are still many unknowns about what the next few months will hold. Our reopening will take several months of preparation and planning, as well as significant financial investments. So, given the uncertainty of what the winter will bring and surging COVID cases, we cannot at this time commit to a January opening that would both keep our patrons, staff and community safe, and be financially viable for us as a company.

CAN I GET A REFUND FOR CANCELED SHOWS?

Due to significant financial challenges caused by the pandemic, we are unable to offer cash refunds for canceled or postponed performances. Instead, we can reschedule you into a corresponding performance once we reopen, issue you a voucher to use for any future performance, or convert the cost of your ticket into a donation, making it tax deductible. We sincerely apologize for the frustration caused by the lack of available refunds.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY TICKETS?

The value of your ticket is safe and can be redeemed for performances once we are able to re-open. Ticket holders will be contacted in the spring with their options. We are not exchanging any vouchers or tickets at this time.

WHAT IF I HAVE A GIFT CERTIFICATE?

The value of your gift certificate is safe and will be able to be used once we re-open, even if the expiration date passed during COVID. We are not redeeming any gift certificates at this time.

WHO CAN I CONTACT WITH OTHER QUESTIONS?

You can contact the Box Office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please note that since all of our staff has either been completely furloughed or reduced to part time, response times may be delayed.

WILL CHARLESTON STAGE MAKE IT THROUGH THIS?

Yes. We are making sacrifices and extremely difficult decisions right now to ensure that we are able to return and delight audiences for years to come. This includes completely furloughing the majority of our staff for many months, and reducing the remaining staff to part time until the pandemic has subsided.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

Even though we are doing everything we can to dramatically reduce our budget, there are still many costs being incurred while we are unable to hold performances and bring in revenue. We still have to pay rent and/or utilities at our performing spaces and production shops, keep a small staff to run operations and a number of other costly items. If you wish to support Charleston Stage through these challenges, please consider donating the cost of your canceled/postponed ticket, donating to our Curtain Up Fund or purchasing a Gift Certificate for future use.
