John Black (Peter)
John has been performing for local audiences for over 15 years, having been nominated for several awards including "Best Supporting Actor" for his portrayal of Saeed in Blood and Gifts at the Woolfe Street Playhouse here in Charleston. Amongst his favorite roles: Drew in Rock of Ages, Martin in Seminar and Jinx in Forever Plaid. Love to his stunning wife Sarah, empowering family and irreplaceable friends. This season, John recently starred as Ezekiel Foster in White Christmas. John is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 Acting Company.
Pen Chance (Ted)
Pen, originally from Augusta, GA, is a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre Arts Administration and a minor in Music. Catawba credits include: Roger in RENT, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Reverend Hale in The Crucible and Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls. Some Augusta credits include: Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Rudy in Bent, Lombard in And Then There Were None and Judas/John the Baptist in Godspell. Pen is an experienced studio and touring musician, specializing in vocals and drums/percussion. Pen is a second year member of Charleston Stage's Resident Professional Acting Company. Charleston Stage lead roles last season include: The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Brom Bones in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Grown Up Ralphie in A Christmas Story, Toad in A Year With Frog and Toad and Mr. Harrigan in The Seat of Justice. This season, Pen recently starred in Hairspray as Edna, in White Christmas as Bob Wallace and will star in Sister Act as Curtis. For Graham.
Alex Anthony Garcia (Sanchez / Mack)
Alex is from Greece, NY, and has a BFA from Niagara University. His most recent show was Annie Get Your Gun (Cowboy). His past performances include: Home Game (Charley/Marco) and Josiah for President (Carl) with Blue Gate Musicals, Tales of Custard the Dragon (Mustard) with Rochester Lyric Opera, Math-stronaut with Creede Repertory Theatre and Twelfth Night (Orsino) with London's Live Literature Company. Favorite roles performed include: A Chorus Line (Paul), Urinetown (Bobby Strong), Into the Woods (Wolf & Cinderella's Prince), Annie (Rooster), Amahl and the Night Visitors (Melchior), Curtains (Bobby), Bat Boy (Dr. Parker), Damn Yankees (Rocky) and The Pirates of Penzance (Pirate). Alex is a member of Charleston Stage's Resident Professional Acting Company. This season, Alex recently starred as Count Dracula in Dracula, King of Vampires.
Sean Michael Kelly (Prentiss)
Sean, originally from Hastings, MN, recently graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theatre. Roles at Carthage include: Bobby Strong in Urinetown, Che in Evita, Buddy in Sideshow, Moritz in Spring Awakening and Sancho in Man of La Mancha. He had the privilege of touring with the Music Theatre faculty throughout China, performing in Seussical and Next to Normal for many children's schools and universities. Last summer he was seen at the Red Barn Theatre in Frankfort, IN, performing in The Boys Next Door, Two in the Aisle, Three in the Van and the musical Lucky Stiff. Sean is a member of Charleston Stage's Resident Professional Acting Company. This season, Sean recently starred as Link Larkin in Hairspray and Jonathan in Dracula, King of Vampires.
David Loar (Lord Leonard Aster)
With Charleston Stage, David played Robert Figg, John W. Davis, Isaac Woodard attorney and Rep. Garrett in The Seat of Justice. He also played three of those roles in the original 2004 production. From 2001 to 2008, David was a member of the Blackfriars Resident Troupe of the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA, playing over 90 roles including Shylock, Prospero, Richard II, Cassius, Claudius, Lord Capulet and Ebenezer Scrooge. He toured for six years with Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, National Shakespeare Company and Chamber Repertory Theatre of Boston. He studied acting at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NY, and the National Shakespeare Conservatory. Other Charleston roles: Gabe in Dinner With Friends (Charleston Stage); Sidney Bruhl in Deathrap (Footlight Players); Lyman Wyeth in Other Desert Cities (Pure Theatre); Kerry Max Cook in The Exonerated (Midtown Productions); Walter Barnes in Blood and Gifts (Woolfe Street Playhouse). David lives on James Island with his wife, Rev. Kristen Barner, and their two dogs, Monty and Viva. David is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 Acting Company. This season, David recently starred as Professor Van Helsing in Dracula, King of Vampires.
Derek T. Pickens (Alf)
Derek, a former Charleston Stage Resident Actor, is thrilled to be part of his fifth season with Charleston Stage. Local credits include: Shear Madness (Eddie), Avenue Q (Princeton/Rod), The Producers (Franz), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Agent COD) and The Foreigner (David) with Charleston Stage, as well as Rock of Ages (Franz), Monty Python's Spamalot (Sir Robin) and The Lyons (Curtis) with Village Rep. Other favorite shows include: Shrek the Musical (Lord Farquaad) at the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival, the national tour of Horrible Harry (Harry) and It's Like That Way for Everybody at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Derek received his MFA in Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as a BA in Theatre Education from Greensboro College. Derek is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 Acting Company. This season, Derek served as Assistant Director for Hairspray and recently starred Snoring Man/Scooter in White Christmas.
Ryan Pixler (Grempkin / Fighting Prawn)
Ryan is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Theatre for Youth and a director at Musical Theater Center. Favorite credits include: Robertson Ay in Mary Poppins (Charleston Stage), Carmen Ghia in The Producers (Charleston Stage), Pinocchio in Shrek the Musical (Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival), Phil d'Armano in Wild Party (Village Rep.), Mitch Maypole in Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens (What If?), Ed Carmichael in You Can't Take It With You (Charleston Stage), DuBose Heyward in Gershwin at Folly (Charleston Stage) and President Roosevelt in Annie (Charleston Stage). Ryan is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 Acting Company. This season, Ryan recently starred as Male Authority Figure in Hairspray, as Mike in White Christmas and will be starring as Monsignor O'Hara in Sister Act.
Brian Porter (Black Stache)
Brian has been with Charleston Stage for over 8 years and serves as the Director of Administration. Some of Brian's favorite Charleston Stage acting credits include: Shear Madness (Tony Whitcomb), The Producers (Roger De Bris), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Roger Strong), Gershwin at Folly (Uncle Angelo), Anything Goes (Elisha Whitley), Inga Binga (Lemoyne "Lem" Billings), A Christmas Carol (Ebenezer Scrooge, 2010), Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (Clown, Man 2) and Cabaret (Emcee). Brian has also appeared on stage with What If? Productions in Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens (Saucy Jack), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Hedwig), Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story (Richard Loeb) and Cabaret (Emcee). Brian is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 Acting Company. This season, Brian recently starred as Wilbur in Hairspray.
William Rutkowski (Captain Robert Falcon Scott)
William, originally from Buffalo, NY, is thrilled to be performing with Charleston Stage for the third time! He is a senior Theatre for Youth major at the College of Charleston. His College of Charleston credits include: The Who's Tommy (Ensemble), Assassins (Giuseppe Zangara), Accidental Death of an Anarchist (Superintendent), Lovers and Players (Flavio) and he was last seen in Charleston Stage's productions of Hairspray (Brad) and Mary Poppins (Park Keeper). William recently appeared in What If? Productions' Amadeus as Venticelli. William would like to thank his friends and family for always supporting him, and note a special thank you to Charleston Stage for this amazing opportunity!
Luke Shaw (Mack)
Luke has been with Charleston Stage since Kindergarten. He is a 9th grade Theatre Major at Charleston County School of the Arts and is a member of Charleston Stage's 2016-17 TheatreWings High School Apprentice Program. When he's not acting, Luke enjoys playing his mandolin, working in his dad's shop, reading comic books and practicing archery. You may recognize Luke from previous productions of A Christmas Story as Ralphie, as Michael Darling in Peter Pan, as Gander in Charlotte's Web and over the years as Ignorance, Tiny Tim and Boy Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Luke would like to thank Mrs. Marybeth and Mr. Julian because if it hadn't been for them, he wouldn't be doing this and he might've been very bored.
Timothy Shaw (Bill Slank / Hawking Clam)
Timothy is grateful to be apart of a Charleston Stage production once again. He has also in the past performed in Shear Madness, Dracula, A Christmas Carol, Tom Sawyer and James and the Giant Peach amongst others. Timothy enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling across the south to visit forgotten shopping malls and working in his family's clothing store.
Madeline Glenn Thomas (Molly Aster)
Madeline is a proud second year Resident Actor at Charleston Stage! Some favorite Charleston Stage credits include: Hairspray (Penny), The Producers (Ulla), Dracula, King of Vampires (Mina Murray) and Little Shop of Horrors (Ronette). Other favorite regional credits include: Assassins (Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme), One Man, Two Guvnors (Dolly) and Kiss Me Kate (Lois Lane u/s) at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, TN. Madeline is a native of Nashville and graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Western Kentucky University in 2014. When she isn't on stage, she can be found teaching acting classes to grade school children or serving as a Production Assistant in the Charleston Stage costume shop! Matthew Willingham (Mrs. Bumbrake / Teacher)
Matthew is so excited to be performing in another show with Charleston Stage! Matthew is a Charleston native and is currently a senior Theatre major at the College of Charleston where he serves as secretary on the board of Center Stage, the only student-run theatre organization on campus. Past Charleston Stage credits include: Hairspray (Sketch), Mary Poppins (Mr. Von Hussler/Ensemble), The Producers (Ensemble) and Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Ensemble). Other credits include What If?'s productions of Amadeus (Venticelli) and Cabaret (Victor) and the College of Charleston's production of Assassins (Ensemble). Matthew would like to give a big thank you to his family, friends and teachers for their endless support over the years!
Atam Woodruff (Smee)
Atam was born and raised in Evansville, IN, but has spent the past three years in Memphis, TN, as a preschool teaching assistant and local actor. Some of Atam’s favorite Memphis credits include: Jesus in Reefer Madness, Schroeder in Charlie Brown, Sketch in Hairspray, The Mute in The Fantasticks, Favorite Son in American Idiot, The Wolf in Into the Woods and many more! Atam is thrilled to be joining the Charleston theatre community in his second production on the Dock Street Theatre stage. Atam recently appeared as Fender in Hairspray. He sends all of his love to Ashley, his family, his friends and the entire cast and crew of this marvelous production.
