From our artistic and managing leadership to every member of our staff, meet the people who bring Charleston Stage to life.

Marybeth is in her twenty-eighth season with Charleston Stage. For her first 24 years she served as Director of Education and Associate Artistic Director, and this is her fourth season as Artistic Director. She holds a degree in theatre and performance from the University of South Florida.
She worked as an actor in professional theatres throughout the Southeast for ten years before settling in Charleston in 1994 with her husband, actor Victor Clark. She began the Resident Professional Acting program in her second year with the company and continues to hire, train, and supervise our young professional actors. As of Season 49, 169 Resident Actors have completed the program.
In her time at Charleston Stage she has directed over 70 shows, with favorites including Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia!, Beautiful, Fiddler on the Roof, and last season's The Sound of Music and Come From Away. This season she appears in Broadway Bound opposite Victor Clark, the first time in their 34 years together that they will play husband and wife on stage.

Playwright, director, designer, and educator Julian Wiles founded Charleston Stage in 1978 and led the company for 45 seasons until his retirement in 2023. He grew up on a farm in Fort Motte, SC, studied history and theatre at the College of Charleston, and earned an M.F.A. in Dramatic Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Under his leadership, Charleston Stage became one of the region's largest and most respected performing arts institutions, producing over 120 professional performances a year and reaching more than 25,000 young people annually through education. During his tenure he designed, directed, and produced over 300 plays and musicals and wrote 34 original works, many celebrating the Lowcountry's rich cultural heritage.
His honors include the South Carolina Governor's Award for the Arts, induction into the SC Theatre Association's Hall of Fame, and, in 2024, induction into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre, one of the highest honors in American theatre.
