Frequently Asked Questions

How do I contact the Box Office?
Call the Box Office at 843.577.7183 or email boxoffice@charlestonstage.com. You can also visit in person at the Dock Street Theatre.
  • During non-show weeks, hours are Tuesday to Thursday 1pm to 5pm in-person and Friday 1pm to 5pm by phone only.
  • During show weeks, hours are Tuesday to Friday 1pm to 5pm and Saturday 1pm to 5pm in-person.
  • The Box Office also opens on site one hour before each performance, where an associate is happy to help.
How can I buy tickets?
You can purchase tickets online through our Shows & Tickets page, or by calling or visiting the Box Office. We accept all major credit cards.

Please note: ticket fees remain the same regardless of the payment method or purchase location.
How do I reset My Account password?
Do you offer Senior, Student, or Military rates?
Yes. Charleston Stage offers Senior, Student, and Active Military rates on all single ticket purchases except Family Series performances. Simply select the Senior, Student, or Military Price when choosing your seats.

Student rates are also available on the Build Your Own 3 Play Package and the Regular 5 Play Packages. Select the Student option when purchasing your package.

Students with a valid Student ID can also request a special $25 ticket at the Box Office beginning one hour before any show, subject to availability.

Discounts cannot be retroactively applied to tickets. If a ticket is purchased at full price, no refunds will be issued to make up the discount difference.
Why do you charge ticket fees, and how much are they?
Ticket sales cover only a portion of the production and operating costs needed to keep live theatre accessible, welcoming, and enriching for audiences throughout the Lowcountry. Ticket fees are added to help offset the costs associated with selling tickets and running a Box Office.

A $3.00 per ticket processing fee and $5.00 per ticket service fee are added to each single ticket purchased. A $5.00 package fee is added to each season ticket order. In addition, the City of Charleston charges a $0.25 seat tax for every single ticket purchased and $1.00 seat tax for every season ticket package. These fees are already included in the price of the ticket.

Every ticket, whether purchased online, in-person, or by phone, is processed by a Charleston Stage Box Office associate. Because of this, fees are the same regardless of purchase method.

A $3.00 per order mail fee will be added to all orders requesting mail as the delivery method.

A $5.00 per ticket exchange fee will be applied to all ticket exchanges. Exchange fees are waived for Season Members.
How do I purchase a Season Membership?
Visit our Season Tickets page for everything you need to become a season member, including package options and pricing.
How do I redeem a Gift Certificate, FlexTicket, or other voucher?
Vouchers and FlexTickets can be exchanged online through our Online Exchange Portal or by calling the Box Office. Because some performances fill up, redeeming early is recommended. A voucher, even one with a QR code, is not a valid ticket until it is exchanged for a specific date and seat, and will not be accepted at the door.

Gift Certificates can be redeemed online, in-person, or by phone. To redeem online, enter the gift certificate number, including the dash, into the appropriate field of the payment screen.
Can I exchange my tickets for another date?
Tickets may be exchanged for a new date of the same production with at least 24 hours notice and a $5 per ticket exchange fee. Exact seating is not guaranteed, and tickets cannot be transferred between different productions. Exchange fees are waived for Season Members.

To exchange tickets, use our Online Exchange Portal or call or visit the Box Office.
Can I get a refund if I can no longer attend?
Tickets are non-refundable. Tickets may be exchanged for a new date of the same production with at least 24 hours notice and a $5 per ticket exchange fee. Exchange fees are waived for Season Members. To exchange tickets, use our Online Exchange Portal or call or visit the Box Office.

If you are unable to attend a different date, tickets may be converted to a tax-deductible ticket donation by contacting the Box Office. You will be sent a receipt for your tax-deductible gift via email.
How do I get my tickets, and what if I lose them?
Tickets are sent via email and can be scanned from the email or downloaded to an Apple or Google wallet. Alternatively, you can request paper tickets be mailed for a $3.00 delivery fee. Mail orders must be placed 14 days before the performance date.

If you cannot find your tickets, contact the Box Office and we will resend them to your email. A Box Office associate can also print your tickets at the Will Call window, which opens one hour before each performance.
I've seen Charleston Stage tickets for sale on other websites. Where is the best place to buy tickets?
Please be advised that CharlestonStage.com is the only authorized ticket seller for Charleston Stage productions. Charleston Stage does not guarantee the authenticity of tickets purchased from any third-party seller. Tickets sold on third-party sites are often priced above face value.

Tickets purchased from a source other than CharlestonStage.com may be lost, stolen, or fake and may not be honored.
Is there a group discount?
Yes. Groups of 10 or more receive special discounted rates plus one free ticket for the group organizer. See our Group Tickets page for details and the online order form.
How do I book a school matinee performance?
Teachers and school administrators can contact Kelly Brolley-Monahan at 843.647.7374 to book a performance, or see our School Matinee page for details and the online order form. Parents must purchase tickets through their school.

Homeschool groups are welcome with a 10 ticket minimum; we cannot sell tickets to individual parents for a school matinee. Tickets are not sold at the door for school matinees.
Can I bring my children? How do I know if a show is right for my family?
Children under 3 are not permitted in the theatre for MainStage productions, and every attendee needs their own ticket and seat. Babes in arms are permitted for Family Series productions only; children ages 3 and up still need their own ticket.

A content guide for each show is posted on the show's page and includes a recommended minimum age. Parents are encouraged to use their own discretion for what is right for their family.
What happens if I arrive late?
Patrons who arrive after curtain will be seated at an appropriate break so as not to disrupt other patrons. Seating of latecomers is at the discretion of the House Manager, and your ticketed seats are not guaranteed if you arrive late.
My seats are together but the numbers don't match up. Why?
In the center Orchestra section, seat numbers begin at 101 and go up to 110 or 111. On the left side of the Orchestra, seats are odd numbers beginning with 1; on the right side, seats are even numbers beginning with 2. So seats 1 and 3, or seats 2 and 4, are next to each other.
Are concessions available?
Light concessions are available beginning one hour before MainStage performances. Food and drink are not allowed inside the seating area. Concessions are operated by the City of Charleston and subject to availability and city policies.
Is there a bag policy? What can I bring?
Charleston Stage does not have specific bag restrictions, but we strongly recommend against large bags, as storage between seats is limited. All bags are subject to search, and no food or drink is allowed in the theatre.

Strollers must be left in the lobby for the duration of the performance.
Who owns the Dock Street Theatre? Can I tour or rent it?
The Dock Street Theatre is owned and operated by the City of Charleston. Public self-guided tours are available Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:30pm.

For rental inquiries, please contact the City's Operations Manager, Donnie Newton, at 843.720.3832.
How do I sign up for classes?
Charleston Stage offers theatre classes for students in early childhood through 8th grade. Visit our Education page for more information. We do not offer adult classes at this time.
How can I audition to perform with Charleston Stage?
Check out the Auditions page for more information.
Do you have a privacy policy?
Charleston Stage values your privacy and collects personal information, such as contact and payment details, to process ticket orders and donations and to improve our services. Mobile information is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. By engaging with us, you consent to the collection and use of your data as outlined in this policy.
Accessibility

A Welcoming Theatre for Everyone

The Dock Street Theatre is a disability-accessible facility. Here is how we help every patron enjoy the show with ease.

Accessible Parking & Loading

The Dock Street Theatre is at 135 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401. Street parking is directly in front of the building, and metered parking is free with a valid handicap placard. A loading zone is available on either side of the street in front of the building. The Cumberland Street Garage at 90 Cumberland Street, two blocks away, also has accessible spaces on the first level.

Accessible Entrance

An accessible entrance for wheelchairs and walkers is located to the left of the main entrance, beside the Box Office lobby. It leads through our courtyard into the Box Office lobby, where a ramp continues to the main lobby and into the theatre. For balcony seating, an elevator is located inside the theatre on the first floor, next to the Orchestra seating in house left.

Accessible Seating

We offer a row of free-standing chairs in row P of the downstairs Orchestra section that can be moved to accommodate a wheelchair or other physical need. There is also space for a wheelchair in section DD of the balcony. These seats can be purchased the same way as all other tickets. For specific needs, contact the Box Office and an associate will be glad to help.

ASL-Interpreted Performances

We are thrilled to recognize FJ Brotherton Charitable Foundation as Presenting Sponsor of our Season 49 ASL performances. Their support brings two ASL-interpreted performances, one in Miss Nelson Is Missing! and one in A Christmas Carol (December 4 at 7:30pm), so that deaf and hard of hearing students and families in Charleston can share the same live theatre experience as their peers. Performance dates to be announced soon.

Hearing Devices

We offer two types of hearing devices: the Sennheiser HDI 302, a wireless headset available to all patrons, and the Sennheiser EKI 830, which connects to existing hearing aids with a T setting. See a Box Office associate before your performance and provide an ID, which is held while the device is checked out and returned to you at the concierge desk afterward.

Companion Tickets

If you need a companion or personal care assistant ticket due to a disability, please contact our Box Office and Charleston Stage will be happy to provide one at no cost.

For specific needs or requests, please contact the Box Office at 843.577.7183 and an associate will be glad to assist.

Terms of Service

Ticket Terms & Policies

By purchasing a Charleston Stage season membership or tickets to any Charleston Stage event, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

Last updated September 2026

Refunds & Exchanges
All ticket purchases are final. If you cannot attend, refunds are not issued. Tickets may be exchanged for a different date of the same production with advance notice and a $5 per ticket exchange fee, waived for current season members, subject to seating availability. If equal-value seats are not available, no credit is given for the difference. Once a performance has begun, no exchanges are made.
Cancelled or Rescheduled Performances
Charleston Stage reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a performance only in the most extenuating circumstances, such as severe weather, natural disasters, government mandates, or public health emergencies. If this happens, we first attempt to move patrons to another performance date. If that is not possible, patrons may receive a voucher for a future production or convert the ticket value into a tax-deductible donation. Refunds are not issued.
Service Fees
An $8.25 service fee is added to each ticket to help cover the cost of ticket handling and patron services, including Box Office staffing and support, credit card processing, equipment upkeep, and ticketing software. Every purchase, whether online, by phone, or in person, is processed by a Charleston Stage Box Office team member, so the service fee applies to all purchases regardless of method.
Credit Card Processing
A processing fee applies to payments made by credit card for tickets, tuition, memberships, donations, and related purchases. It appears as a separate Service Fees line at checkout before payment is finalized and applies online, by phone, and in person. Patrons may avoid the credit card processing fee by paying with cash, check, or ACH bank transfer where available. Processing fees are non-refundable, including when a purchase is exchanged, cancelled, or refunded, except where required by law.
Seating & Tiers
Please consider your seating needs before purchasing, as refunds are not issued based on seat selection. We use a tiered seating system: Premium seating (Tier P) is the first two rows of the center balcony; Tier 1 seats are in the center Orchestra and the aisle seats in house left and right; Tier 3 seats are partial-view and are discounted accordingly. The Dock Street Theatre is a historic, City-owned building, so Charleston Stage has no control over the physical seats or arrangement. In the rare case of a double-booked or unavailable seat, our staff will make every attempt to seat you in a seat of equal or greater value; if that is not possible, a refund for the price difference is issued, or you may choose a voucher for a future performance.
Age Restrictions & Babes in Arms
Children under 3 are not permitted in the theatre for MainStage productions, and every attendee needs their own ticket and seat. Babes in arms are permitted for Family Series productions only; children ages 3 and up still need their own ticket. We recommend reviewing each production's content guide before purchasing. Failure to follow these policies may result in forfeiture of tickets without a refund.
Content Warnings
Patrons concerned about the content of a production should review the content guide on the show's page and do their own research. Charleston Stage is not responsible for content a patron finds objectionable, and no refunds or credits are issued on that basis.
Late Arrivals
Ticket ordering closes 15 minutes after curtain. Previously purchased tickets are still honored if you arrive late, but seating time and placement are at the discretion of the House Manager to minimize disruption. Your ticketed seats are not guaranteed if you arrive late.
Discounts
At its discretion, Charleston Stage may offer discounts on select tickets. Discount offers cannot be applied to previously purchased tickets or in ways prohibited by the offer. Ongoing discounts include student, senior, and active military pricing, as well as a discount for groups of 10 or more.
Senior & Student Pricing
Patrons 60 or older at the time of purchase qualify for a discounted ticket price, selected during checkout; there is no senior pricing on season memberships. Students under 25 qualify for reduced season and advance ticket pricing, and, with a valid student ID, for $25 student rush tickets sold in person beginning one hour before each performance, subject to availability. Discounts cannot be applied after a purchase is complete.
Active Military
Active military members, their partners, and dependents qualify for a discounted ticket price. The discount cannot be applied after purchase and must be selected during checkout.
Group Rates
Groups of 10 or more receive special discounted rates plus one free ticket for the group organizer. See the Group Tickets page to reserve. Group rates cannot be applied to previously purchased tickets.
PNC Pay-As-You-Please
Charleston Stage typically offers Pay-As-You-Please performances for each MainStage production. These tickets cost $30.25, which includes $5.25 in processing fees. Availability of these performances and seats is not guaranteed. We typically do not offer these tickets in advance; they are released online 24 hours before the performance, and Charleston Stage reserves the right to adjust this policy.
Photography Policy
Anyone entering a Charleston Stage performance or facility agrees to be photographed or recorded for use in promotional materials and other publications. Patrons may not photograph or record any portion of a live performance.
School Matinees
Charleston Stage holds school matinee performances of select productions at a discounted rate. Tickets must be reserved in advance by a school or teacher; homeschool families are welcome, but tickets are not sold to individuals or at the door. A 50% deposit is requested within the month of booking, or within the week if booking closer to the date, and a Purchase Order may be provided in place of a deposit.
Privacy Policy
Charleston Stage values your privacy and collects personal information, such as contact and payment details, to process orders and donations and improve our services. Mobile information is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. By engaging with us, you consent to the collection and use of your data as outlined in this policy.
