A New Chapter

Introducing the Junior Company

For many years, our Troupe Program was a vital part of our education program. As theatre evolves, so must our training. After careful consideration, we have retired the Troupe Program and launched an all-new program designed to better serve our young performers and reflect the ever-changing theatre landscape.

The Charleston Stage Junior Company offers students a more focused and enriching experience, with enhanced acting, singing, and dance training.

Familiar Foundations

Auditions required: entry is still by audition, following a process similar to previous years. Non-troupe teachers now adjudicate the auditions.
Exclusive performance opportunities: only Junior Company members are eligible to perform in Charleston Stage productions, except in rare cases where a specific casting need arises.
Dedicated productions for students: there will be productions for 3rd-5th graders and 6th-8th graders in the spring. High schoolers will be cast in our mainstage productions instead of a separate fall play or musical.

Deeper Training

Increased commitment: students receive 4 hours of instruction in the fall and 2-6 hours in the spring.
More personalized training: all students from 3rd grade through high school take weekly classes in voice, acting or musical theatre scene study, and musical theatre jazz.
Smaller, more focused groups: each Junior Company troupe is capped at 20 students to ensure high-quality instruction.

Our goal is to provide a program that nurtures and challenges young performers who are ready to commit to a higher level of training.

Auditions for the 2026-27 Junior Company are now closed. Please check back in March 2027 for information about auditioning for the 2027-28 season.
