MarvinBell webMARVIN BELL (Rev. J.A. De Laine)  
Marvin Bell is making his debut appearance with Charleston Stage. Most recently, he has appeared as Hoke in consecutive productions of Driving MIss Daisy at the Flat Rock Playhouse in Hendersonville, NC, and the Garage Theater Group in Teaneck, NJ, a role that won him a 2013 Broadway World nomination for ‘Best Feature Actor in a Play’ for his performance at the Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, CT. Additionally he has appeared as Doaker in August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson at the Cape Fear Theater in Fayetteville, NC, and as Jim Bono in Fences at the New Harmony Theater in New Harmony, IN.

Crystin webCRYSTIN GILMORE (Mrs. Ruby Cornwell) 
An award-winning actress based in New York and born the daughter of a preacher and an educator from the outskirts of Memphis, Tennessee, Crystin found her love for performing in the church. She received a B.F.A. in Performance from the University of Memphis. Crystin’s award-winning roles include Shug in The Color Purple at Playhouse on the Square and Speakeasy Stage Company ~Ostrander, IRNE and Arts Impulse Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, playing Dottie Moffat in Caroline, Or Change ~Ostrander for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical at Playhouse on the Square, and Pearl in Black Pearl Sings! at Circuit Playhouse ~Ostrander Award for Best Lead in a Drama. A former member of Charleston Stage’s Professional Resident Acting Company, she appeared on the stage at the Dock Street Theatre playing characters such as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, Evilene in The Wiz, Peggy Clark in Blue and Momma Morton in Chicago, The Musical. Recent credits include:  Wanda in Beehive: The 60’s Musical! at Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Sophia in The Clark Doll, A Bedtime Story at Manhattan Repertory Theatre and an Ensemble role in Summer Blue at the Theatre for a New City. DwaineBennettDWAINE BENNETT (Fireman) 
This is Dwaine’s third year as a TheatreWings apprentice with Charleston Stage.  This season, Dwaine is in the Stage Management concentration with the TheatreWings program.  Dwaine is a junior homeschooler and loves to fill his time with technical theatre as much as possible.  His hope is to move into a touring Lighting Designer position for both music and theatre.  Dwaine has worked on ten shows since joining TheatreWings and some of his favorites include Gershwin at Folly, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Anne of Green Gables and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  He looks forward to working as the Assistant Stage Manager for Mary Poppins in the spring.

 

 

 

 

Nathan Burke WebNATHAN BURKE (Mr. Sonny) 
Nathan, originally from Keller, TX, recently graduated from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.  Regional credits with Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival in Durant, OK, include:  Orlando in As You Like It and Aaron Shultz in Legally Blonde: The Musical.  Stage roles at Ole Miss include:  Clive Paget/John Jasper in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Hot Blades Harry in Urinetown, J. Shultz/R. Schmidt/D. Shepherd in The Laramie Project, Moritz in Spring Awakening (Ghostlight Repertory Theatre) and Nicky/Trekkie/Bad Idea Bear in Avenue Q (GRT).  This April, Nathan will be starring as Bert in Mary Poppins.

 

 

 

 

Pen Chance WebPEN CHANCE (Mr. Harrigan, Fire Chief)
Pen Chance, originally from Augusta, GA, is a recent graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Theatre Arts Administration and a Minor in Music.  Roles at Catawba include:  Roger in RENT, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, The Dentist (and others) in Little Shop of Horrors, Reverend Hale in The Crucible and Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls.  Pen is an experienced studio and touring musician, specializing in vocals and drums/percussion.  This season at the Dock, Pen will be seen in 8 of the 9 productions within Charleston Stage’s season, most recenlty as Grown Ralphie in A Christmas Story and as Toad in A Year with Frog and Toad.

 

 

 

 

VictorVICTOR CLARK (Judge Waties Waring) 
Victor is honored to be a member of Charleston Stage's Acting Ensemble! Other Charleston Stage credits include: Sir Robert De Lesseps/Barman in Shakespeare in Love, Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Keller in The Miracle Worker, General Henry Waverly in White Christmas, Judge Waties Waring in The Seat of Justice, Old Man in A Christmas Story, Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Hank in Inga Binga, Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Lloyd in Noises Off, 11 different characters in Greater Tuna, Jim in All My Sons and Paul in Born Yesterday. Other favorite roles while in Charleston include: Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy, Dr. Sanderson in Harvey and Bill in On Golden Pond. Victor most recently appeared with Charleston Stage as Maurice in Disney's Beauty and the Beast and as Candy in Of Mice and Men.

 

 

 

LettyClayLETTY CLAY (Mrs. Viola Pearson, Cora, Ensemble) 
Letty was born and raised for the 1st half of her life in Southern California, but has come to call beautiful Charleston, SC, home for the last 20+ years. She holds a B.S. Degree from Southern Wesleyan University and a M.S. from Charleston Southern University. She has previously appeared on stage in Charleston Stage’s The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein and Gershwin at Folly as part of the ensemble casts, as Viola Pearson/Cora in The Seat of Justice, as Mrs. Corry in Mary Poppins, as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, as Viney in The Miracle Worker, as Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird, and as Ruth in Helium. Letty credits her introduction to the Charleston Theatre community to the invite she received to be a part of the ensemble cast of the 2012 performance of Porgy and Bess, performed the first time ever at the Historic Dock Street Theatre. Some of her hobbies and interests include traveling, watching movies, laughing, enjoying life and spending time with her beautiful and talented daughter, Zariah, extended family, close friends, and her growing theatre family. Letty most recently appeared in the Ensemble of Disney's Beauty and the Beast and as Voice Six: Mrs. Alexandria/Posh Woman in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

 

Beth WebBETH CURLEY (Mrs. Elizabeth Waring) 
Beth is thrilled to be performing once again with Charleston Stage. Beth last appeared on the Dock Street Theatre stage as The Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs. Taybor in A Christmas Carol. Other favorite Charleston Stage credits include: Sister Act (Mother Superior), White Christmas (Martha Watson), Mary Poppins (Mrs. Brill), Catch Me If You Can: The Musical (Carol Strong), The Diary of Anne Frank (Mrs. Frank), Gershwin at Folly (Dorothy Heyward), Inga Binga (Betty), and Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (The Woman). Some of Beth's other favorite local theatre credits include: Power of Love (Dianne) with 34 West Theatre Company, If I Forget (Sharon Fischer) with PURE Theatre, The 39 Steps (The Woman) with Footlight Players, and Wonder of the World (Cass), Stupid F*#ing Bird (Emma), The Cannibals (Frankie), Cabaret (Fraulein Schneider), Baby With the Bathwater (Helen), Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche (Wren), and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Yitzak) with What If? Productions. When not on stage, Beth is the Director of Marketing/Resident Graphic Designer for Charleston Stage.

 

 

ChadCHAD ESTEL (Jury Foreman, R.M. Elliott)
Chad has been acting around the Lowcountry since 2007 including with the Flowertown Players, Black Fedora Comedy Mystery Theatre, Threshold Repertory Theatre, What If? Productions and the Actor’s Theatre of South Carolina. Chad is very excited to be back once again with Charleston Stage as a member of the Acting Ensemble. Some of Chad’s favorite productions he has been part of include To Kill a Mockingbird, Seat of Justice, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, The Odd Couple, Don’t Dress For Dinner, The Red Velvet Cake War, Dearly Departed, The 39 Steps, Amadeus, Of Mice and Men, Shakespeare In Love and most recently the Pearl Theatre’s debut show Shear Madness. You can catch Chad in this season’s productions of Footloose and Noises Off. He would like to thank his wife Sharon and daughter Sacha for their love and everlasting support for the chance to be involved with such a great organization and community.  

 

 

 

JailynJAILYN BLAKE HARRIS (Daisy Pearson) 
Jailyn, age 7, resides in Charleston.  She is a second grade student at Charleston Development Academy where she excels in her studies.  Jailyn is an avid reader and enjoys playing “school” with her dolls, where she acts as the teacher.  Jailyn has taken both tap and ballet classes and is currently excited about taking karate lessons and has recently earned her yellow belt.   In her free time, Jailyn loves playing with her doll collection and she enjoys singing –especially the ever popular “Let It Go” theme song of Frozen.  This is Jailyn’s very first production, however she has previously taken an interest in acting and has written, directed, produced and acted in her very own at-home commercial.  This social butterfly enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is always ready for new activities and adventures.

 

 

 

MosesMOSES LANE (Isaac) 
Moses is an A/B Honor Roll student at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School.  He is making his acting debut with Charleston Stage although most who know him personally often identify him as a character.  Born in Naperville, Illinois, to parents Martin and Audrey, Moses is an avid soccer player, Brown Black Karate student and an awesome big brother to Micah.   Moses stands in the shadows of his maternal grandfather with a love for SC history and is excited to be involved in this production highlighting this historic event in his Mom’s home state.  Thank you to all his family, friends, school and church family for believing in him and supporting him.

 

 

 

 

DavidDAVID LOAR (States Attorney Figg, Rep Garrett) 
This past season with Charleston Stage, David appeared as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and Richard Burbage in Shakespeare in Love. From 2001 to 2008, David was a member of the Blackfriars Resident Troupe of the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA, playing roles such as Shylock, Prospero, Richard II, Cassius, Claudius, Lord Capulet, and Ebenezer Scrooge. He toured the US for six years with Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, the National Shakespeare Company, and Chamber Repertory Theatre of Boston. He studied acting at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NY, and the National Shakespeare Conservatory. Other Charleston roles: Lord Leonard Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher, Prof. Van Helsing in Dracula, Robert Figg, John W. Davis, Isaac Woodard attorney, and Rep. Garrett in The Seat of Justice and Gabe, Dinner With Friends, Charleston Stage; Sidney Bruhl, Deathrap, Footlight Players; Lyman Wyeth, Other Desert Cities, PURE Theatre; Kerry Max Cook, The Exonerated, Midtown Productions; Walter Barnes, Blood and Gifts, Woolfe Street Playhouse, King Lear and Macbeth, Actors Theatre of SC. He lives on James Island with his wife, Rev. Kristen Barner, and their dog, Tia.

 

AnthonyANTHONY MCCUTCHEN (Levi Pearson, Dr. Kenneth Clark)  
Anthony is very grateful to the Charleston Stage company for the opportunity to return to performing.  He debuted at the Dock Street Theatre as Curtis Taylor Jr. in the 2001 Moja Arts Festival production of Dreamgirls.  He then returned to the Dock Street in the 2004 production of I Sing From My Soul (Art Forms and Theatre Concepts).  Other credits include roles in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Tambourines To Glory and Eubie.  Anthony is a native of Nesmith, SC, and is a gifted singer who has served for over two decades as a worship leader for the Charleston Church of Christ.  He holds a Masters Degree in Education from the College of Charleston and has been teaching elementary school for the past four years.  Anthony would like to thank his amazing wife, Michele, for continually inspiring him to dream!  He would also like to thank his 13-year-old daughter, Alexis and 10-year-old son, Anthony Jr. for all their support.

 

 

 

HenryClayHENRY CLAY MIDDLETON (Thurgood Marshall)  
Henry Clay has been acting in the Charleston area for many years.  He has performed with Charleston Stage Company in paast productions of Denmark Vesey: Insurrection, To Kill a Mockingbird, Dracula and The Seat of Justice.  He was recently featured in the national touring play Life Isn’t Fair both here in Charleston and in Birmingham, Alabama.  He has played the role of Troy Maxson in the August Wilson Pulitzer Prize winning play Fences, which was produced by South of Broadway Theater in 2014.  A few other theatre credits include King Lear, The Piano Lesson and The Trial of One Short-Sighted Black Woman vs. Mammy Louise and Safreeta Mae.  His directing credits include Of Mice and Men, the gospel musical Crowns, A Raisin in the Sun and Porgy and Bess.  Henry Clay has done TV commercials as well as industrial videos for Benefitfocus.  He was also featured in a recurring role in the Lifetime television show Army Wives.

 

 

 

RandolphRANDOLPH MIDDLETON (Robert Carter, Ensemble) 
Randolph is an American dancer, singer and actor.  He has performed in musical theatre productions such as You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, West Side Story, Charleston: The Musical, Hairspray, Five Guys Named Moe, Chicago, The Duncan Storm/The Duncan Storm Revival, and RENT.  More about Randolph and his credits may be viewed at www.rndph.com.  Randolph appreciates the opportunity to join Charleston Stage once again in their production of this historic reenactment of courage, faith and perseverance.  He hopes you enjoy the show.

 

 

 

 

LisaLISA MONTGOMERY (Liza, Ensemble) 
Lisa is no stranger to the theatre community where she has performed with multiple companies.  She is excited to be working again with Charleston Stage and Director, Julian Wiles.  Her theatrical performances include:  Seize the Street, Mahalia, A Gospel Musical! (2010/12), the Me Nobody Knows, Ain’t Misbehavin, Unconditional....Love Never Fails, What Child Is This, The Drowsy Chaperone, South Pacific, A Question of Color, The Wiz, A Woman Called Truth, Gershwin at Folly, Johnny Duke Left, Take Me Back To Harlem, A Christmas Carol and Mo Blues at the Legends Cabaret.  She performs jazz vocals with several local artists.  She is featured in the SC Palmetto Cycling PSA Commercial and the following film projects:  Perceptions, Finding Bruce, Broken, A Place to Stay, the Follower, Dominion Media Matters and Human Evolution

 

 

 

MalcolmPalmerMALCOLM JOHNSON PALMER (James Pearson, Isaac Woodard) 
A “true entertainer” is how he is described by his parents, Henry and Shavonne Palmer who, at a very early age, thrust him in front of the masses at his church to give speeches, praise dance and sing songs.  Malcolm is currently a ninth grade Theatre major at The Charleston County School of the Arts and also a member of Charleston Stage’s WINGS program.  When Malcolm is not studying or acting, he enjoys dancing and listening to music and learning to play his new toy, “the keyboard”.  Malcolm is truly grateful for all of his friends, relatives, godparents and church family and would like to thank them for their love, support and prayers.  Charleston Stage credits include:  Young Pete/Young Peter in A Woman Called Truth, Peter Hatcher in Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Fezziwig Apprentice/Turkey Boy in A Christmas Carol.

 

 

 

KaylaKAYLA PEAKE (Eloise Pearson) 
Kayla is enjoying her 5th grade year at Howe Hall Arts Infused Magnet School.  She is an Honor Roll Student.  She was most recently seen in their AIMS Players production of the Boo Revue 2015 in the role of Jessica and a singing witch.  She has been singing and performing in stage productions with Howe Hall AIMS and AIMS Players since her kindergarten year in school.  Her favorite role was that of Silly Sidekick Sam in their production of the Boo Revue 2014.  She is also a part of the Special Talent Enrichment Program, which is Berkeley County’s Gifted and Talented Artistic Program.  She is a member of AIMS Ambassadors.  The Howe Hall AIMS Chameleon Student Ambassador program is a voluntary program for fourth and fifth graders in which students have the opportunity to demonstrate and enhance their leadership skills.  Kayla, in her free time enjoys reading, writing, swimming, singing and spending time with her family.  Kayla would like to thank Mrs. Angela Rogers, her mentor and Theatre teacher, her Principal Chris Swetckie, all of the Fine Arts teachers at AIMS, her mom and dad, family and friends for their support in this wonderful adventure into theatre!

 

 

KentReynolds WebKENT REYNOLDS (Reverend McCord) 
Kent, originally from Kansas City, KS, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Drake University.  Kent is a second year member of Charleston Stage’s Professional Resident Acting Company.  Charleston Stage credits last season include:  Wilbur C. Henderson in You Can’t Take It With You, The Hermit/Ensemble in The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, Alexander in Alexander…Very Bad Day, Fred in A Christmas Carol, Dad in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Mr. Van Dann in The Diary of Anne Frank and Carl Hanratty in Catch Me If You Can: The Musical.  Regional credits at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, TN, include:  Smee in Peter Pan, Ralph in Reefer Madness, Patsy/Mayor in Spamalot and Peter Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank.  Other credits include:  Frankie Epps/Young Soldier in Parade, CB in Dog Sees God and Baker in Into the Woods.

 

 

Maggie Saunders WebMAGGIE SAUNDERS (Miss Elizabeth, Gossip) 
Maggie is thrilled to be back in Charleston and to join the Acting Ensemble. You may recognize her from her time as a Resident Actor with the company in various performances including Hairspray (Tracy Turnblad), The Miracle Worker (Annie Sullivan), and Little Shop of Horrors (Chiffon). She currently teaches for Dance.Laugh.Learn and is also the Outreach Coordinator for Charleston Stage Company. She can be seen this season in Elf as Mrs. Claus, Our Town as Mrs. Webb, and Bright Star. She would like to thank the Charleston Stage family for welcoming her back with open arms and her mom for her constant support. 

       

 

 

  

JohnSmallsJOHN SMALLS (Silas, Mr. Howard Boulware, Ensemble) 
John is a veteran of the stage that is honored to be working again with Charleston Stage Company in The Seat of Justice as the original cast member for Attorney Harold Boulware.  Recent performances include Mo’ Soul At The Legends Cabaret, as Grady Altman, Bubbling Brown Sugar as Jim and Ceremonies In Dark Old Men, as Bobby Parker.  He has been seen in Porgy And Bess, as Robbins, Lawyer Frazier and The Crab Man, The Me Nobody Knows as Clorox Johnson, Mahalia, A Gospel Musical! as Pastor Lawrence and Thomas Dorsey, the father of gospel music, Ragtime as Booker T. Washington, Bat Boy, The Musical!, as the Reverend Billy Hightower, Crowns, as The Man, Joe Turner’s Come And Gone, as Herald Loomis, and numerous other productions including the Lifetime series Army Wives as The Cook in Betty’s Bar and Grill later known as The Hump Bar.  John has been blessed to tour inside and out of the country alongside and sharing the stage with great artists such as Kim Burrell, The Clark Sisters, Vickie Winans, The Anointed Pace Sisters, The late Reverend Timothy Wright and too many others to name.  John is a featured soloist on two cd recordings produced by The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Gospel Choir.  He performs gullah and negro spirituals full time with Ann Caldwell and The Magnolia Singers.  John sincerely believes that only what you do for Christ will last, and as an ordained elder in the Church of God in Christ worldwide, he uses the platform of entertainment to be a living testimony of how God can use His people in any arena or setting for His glory.

 

TeresaTERESA SMITH (Rosalee, Ensemble) 
Teresa is always excited to be part of a Charleston Stage Company production.  She is an Army brat, and has travelled throughout the US and Europe, but is proud to call Charleston her home.  Her passions are Education, the Military, to include veterans and their families and the well-being of Critters.  She loves performing on the stage in local theatres, and some of her favorite roles include, Maisy (Gershwin at Folly), Rose (Fences) and Tillie (Blue) just to name few.  In addition to stage acting, she has filmed local and regional commercials for Akim Anastopoulo, Piggly Wiggly, Jones Ford, CDS Remodeling, SC Get Out and Vote Campaign, and industrial videos for MUSC and Benefitfocus.  She was cast in the movie Dear John and two independent films, Untouched and Song of Pumpkin Brown.  She made her TV debut on the hit series One Tree Hill.  She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and attends Faith Assembly of God Church in Summerville.  She has one child--- a rescued dog (MinPin mix) named Finn.

         

 

TawesTAWES WENZ (Sonnyboy) 
Tawes is 4th grade student at Mason Prep.  Last summer Tawes discovered the stage playing the Sultan in Charleston Stage’s Summerstage production of Aladdin, Jr.  When he isn’t acting Tawes enjoys baseball, football, roller coasters and movies.  Tawes would like to thank his family and friends for their love and support.

Moriah Missionary Baptist Church) and has appeared as himself with his Band Team, The Secrets, in Adolphus Is Downtown with a Tribute to Oscar Brown, Jr at Gullah Theatre PS Studios, where he and the band enjoyed presenting jazz music from the 20’s through the 70’s.  Presently he appears as a regular on Author Chislom’s ACH Funtime Show on Cable TV2 and on Carlos Johnson’s Poetry Show at Scotts Grand.  He holds degrees and certifications in Fine Arts, Computers and IT from State University of NY, City College of NY and Trident Technical College, and has served in Charleston as a volunteer activist for the disabled and disadvantaged for more than 19 years.

 

GregoryGREGORY LAMARTE COULTER WILLIAMS (Harry Briggs, Jr.) 
Gregory is the miracle son of Lamarte and Chelsea Williams.  Gregory and his parents are members of Royal Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston, South Carolina.   When Gregory is not performing on stage, he is actively pursuing a variety of interests.  Gregory loves school and maintains all A’s while participating in many dance and drama performances at a local arts-infused magnet school in Berkeley County.  His talents also include skillful athletic abilities that allow him to show off his swagger on the football field.  Gregory aspires to attend Clemson University prior to law school.  His ultimate goal is to become a Supreme Court Judge.   A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Angela Rogers for instilling his love of drama.  Gregory’s performance in The Seat of Justice is dedicated to the memory of his late grandparents, Furber Gregory, Froney and Edna Carter, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Coulter.

 

 

 

RomelloROEMELLO “MELLO” YOUNG (Levi Pearson, Jr.) 
Roemello is an 8th grader majoring in Theatre at Charleston County School of the Arts.  He also attended Jennie Moore Elementary Magnet School of the Arts.  He has performed in various school and local children’s productions, but this is his first performance with Charleston Stage.  He is very excited about this new opportunity!
