AUDITION PREP WORKSHOP

Audition Prep Workshop is a 2 hour workshop that is geared towards preparing students for the School of the Arts theatre audition. Students should come to the workshop with a monologue already chosen and memorized. We will work the monologue as well as cover the other sections of the SOA audition so students feel prepared and confident for their audition. This workshop is for students 5th grade and up. Students do NOT need to sign up for both sessions.

 

 

3rd-5th grade Musical Theatre

Welcome to the 3rd-5th Grade Musical Theatre class! This energetic and immersive class is designed to introduce elementary school students to the magical world of musical theatre. Whether your child is a budding performer or new to the stage, this class offers a supportive and engaging environment for students to explore their singing, dancing, and acting abilities while discovering the excitement of musical theatre.

Course Objectives:

  1. Introduction to Musical Theatre: Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of musical theatre, exploring the unique combination of singing, dancing, and acting that brings stories to life on stage. Through interactive activities, games, and discussions, students will learn about the history of musical theatre, iconic shows, and the collaborative nature of musical theatre productions.
  2. Vocal Development: Students will receive vocal training to develop their singing abilities and build confidence in their voices. They will learn basic vocal warm-ups, breathing techniques, and exercises to improve pitch, tone, and projection. Through group singing and solo opportunities, students will explore different musical styles and develop their vocal skills while expressing emotions through song.
  3. Dance and Movement: Students will learn basic dance techniques and explore movement in the context of musical theatre. They will develop coordination, rhythm, and body awareness through fun and age-appropriate choreography. Students will learn to express themselves physically, interpret music through movement, and understand the importance of storytelling through dance.
  4. Acting and Character Exploration: Students will delve into the art of acting and character development within the context of musical theatre. They will explore techniques to express emotions, portray characters, and engage the audience. Through improvisation, scripted scenes, and ensemble work, students will develop their acting skills, foster imagination, and discover the joy of bringing characters to life on stage.
  5. Performance Opportunities: Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents. They will work collaboratively with their classmates and teachers to bring thematerial to life. These performance opportunities will allow students to apply what they have learned, develop stage presence, and experience the excitement of performing in front of an audience. This class will perform as part of Playfest in April 2024. Specific schedule TBD.
 
Class Requirements:

  • No previous musical theatre experience is required.
  • Willingness to actively participate in class activities, exercises, and performances.
  • Openness to trying new techniques and taking creative risks.
  • Respect for classmates' ideas, perspectives, and performances.
  • Willingness to engage in self-expression and teamwork.

By the end of this course, students will have developed a basic understanding of singing, dancing, and acting in the context of musical theatre. They will have gained confidence in performing on stage, an appreciation for the collaborative nature of musical theatre, and a love for the magic of the art form. This class will ignite their passion for musical theatre and serve as a foundation for further exploration and growth in the performing arts. 3rd-5th Grade Acting

 
Welcome to the 3rd-5th Grade Acting class! This exciting and interactive class is designed to introduce elementary school students to the world of acting and help them develop a solid foundation in performance skills. Whether your child has prior acting experience or is new to the stage, this class provides a supportive and imaginative environment for students to explore their creativity, build confidence, and have fun while discovering the magic of acting.

Course Objectives:

  1. Introduction to Acting: Students will learn the basics of acting through a variety of engaging exercises and games. They will explore the concepts of stage presence, body language, voice projection, and facial expressions. Through imaginative play and improvisation, students will discover the joy of storytelling and expressing themselves through performance.
  2. Character Exploration: Students will embark on an exciting journey of character exploration. They will learn how to create and embody different characters by using their voices, bodies, and emotions. Through interactive activities, students will develop an understanding of the choices actors make to bring characters to life and will explore various character archetypes and personalities.
  3. Storytelling and Script Work: Students will have the opportunity to explore the art of storytelling and script work. They will engage in dramatic readings, participate in group storytelling activities, and even have a chance to act out scenes from popular children's literature. By exploring scripts, students will develop their reading comprehension, practice dialogue delivery, and gain a deeper understanding of narrative structure.
  4. Improvisation and Creative Play: Improvisation fosters creativity, quick thinking, and collaboration. Students will engage in improvisational exercises and games that promote spontaneity, imagination, and teamwork. They will learn to think on their feet, build confidence in making choices, and embrace the unexpected. Improvisation will enhance their overall acting skills while providing a platform for their unique ideas and creativity.
  5. Performance Opportunities: Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to showcase their acting abilities in small group presentations, class performances, and potentially even a short play or skit. These performance opportunities will allow students to apply what they have learned, develop stage presence, and share their talents with their peers and potentially a wider audience. This class will perform as part of Playfest in April 2024. Specific schedule TBD.
