Charleston Stage Education is excited to share some important updates!
For many years, our Troupe Program has been a vital part of our education program. However, as theatre evolves, so must our training to better serve our students and productions.
After careful consideration, we have decided to retire the Troupe Program and launch an all-new training program designed to meet the needs of our young performers better and reflect the ever-changing theatre landscape.
Introducing: The Charleston Stage Junior Company
The Junior Company offers students a more focused and enriching experience with enhanced acting, singing, and dance training.
What's Staying the Same?
- Auditions Required – Entry into the program will still be by audition, following a process similar to those in previous years. However, non-troupe teachers will now adjudicate the auditions.
- Exclusive Performance Opportunities – Only Junior Company members will continue to be eligible to perform in Charleston Stage productions (except in rare cases where a specific casting need arises).
- Dedicated Productions for Students – High schoolers will not have a fall play/musical next year as they will be cast in our mainstage productions. There will still be productions for 3rd-5th graders and 6th-8th graders in the spring.
What's Changing?
- Increased Commitment – Students will receive 4 hours of instruction in the fall and 2-6 hours in the spring.
- More Personalized Training – All students 3rd - high school will participate in weekly classes of voice, acting or musical theatre scene study, and musical theatre jazz.
- Smaller, More Focused Groups – Each Junior Company troupe will be capped at 20 students to ensure high-quality instruction.
Our goal is to provide a program that nurtures and challenges young performers who are ready to commit to a higher level of training.
If you’re interested in joining the Charleston Stage Junior Company, we encourage you to discuss these changes with your family and consider if this program aligns with your goals.
